Tristain

Tristain (Tristanian: Tristain; Japanese: トリステイン Torisutein), or the Kingdom of Tristain, is the nation in Halkeginia in which the majority of the story takes place. It is a small country resembling the Low Countries. Tristain is home to the Tristain Academy of Magic, a highly acclaimed school for magical studies, which attracts students from nearby countries, even from Gallia and Germania. The current ruler of Tristain is Queen Henrietta, with Louise next in line. Their official language is French.

History[]

The Kingdom of Tristain was established c. 6,000 years before the beginning of the series by a son of Brimir. Of the four 'Brimiric Nations', Tristain is the smallest and the weakest on terms of military might and thus the country is disparagingly referred to as 'Tiny Tristain'. Due to her weakness various monarchs have been forced into marriages with powerful nobles and even members of neighboring royal families.

At the beginning of the series Henrietta, heir to the throne of Tristain, is set to marry the Emperor of Germania in order to secure a strong support against the rising threat of Reconquesta. While the engagement falls apart for several reasons the Emperor still agrees to aid Tristain in the war against Albion. The war ends in an Allied victory and Henrietta's kingdom is left intact though a new threat begins to appear from Gallia.

Monarchy[]

House of Tristain[]

The royal House of Tristain is descended from the Founder Brimir through one of his three children. By the beginning of the series the family consists of the Queen Marianne and Princess Henrietta though the latter is crowned Queen during the war against Reconquesta.

Its area is about the size of Belgium (30,528 km²) and Netherlands (41,528 km²) combined (72,056 km²), about ten times smaller than Gallia or Germania.[1]
